The man, the house, the legend - loft!

400 Place - The Marquette (huset)

400 Place was originally constructed in 1906 to house Springfield Business College. It became the Marquette Hotel in 1918 when it was converted to a muliple-dwelling hotel, later known as the Hotel State. While the upper floors have remained virtually untouched, the lower floor plan has experienced numerous alterations over the years. For example, storefronts were added to the building during the hotel conversion in 1918.

The Marquette Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Unfortunately, in 2001, it was cited by the City of Springfield for dangerous building conditions and had to close its doors.

It was acquired in 2003 by Jericho Development Company and is currently undergoing a historic rehabilitation and development plan, slated for completion in Spring of 2005. The main floor and lower level are being developed as commercial lease space, while 15 loft apartments are built for the second and third floors
